How CU Health helped Sarah return to work

Maternity leave

Sarah recently returned to work after maternity leave with a diagnosis of postnatal depression (PND). A high-stress job combined with low family support meant Sarah was feeling extra pressure in an already fragile state. Sleeping difficulties and feelings of inadequacy caused by PND exacerbated Sarah’s migraines, leaving her physically and mentally exhausted.

We helped Sarah by referring her to specialised psychological support for postnatal depression. The psychological support provided Sarah with coping strategies and helped her set treatment goals, which helped reduce her PND symptoms. We also referred Sarah to General Practice Medical Services, who worked alongside the psychology team, and provided advice for coping with migraines. To assist with her baby’s routine we organised a referral to a baby sleep and feeding consultant.

This mutli-disciplinary approach decreased Sarah’s absenteeism by 35% and increased engagement by 20%.
